What if it was you?
What if it was you?
"Giant waves kill thousands in Asia."
My eyes popped out.
I woke up.
"Bodies line beaches and homes are obliterated following strongest earthquake in 40 years...the worst is not over..."
"MORE than 10,000 people are feared dead or missing and millions displaced as the strongest earthquake in the world in 40 years unleashed flash floods and giant waves on South and South-east Asia."
"Terrifying walls of water, or tsunamis, some as high as four storeys, crashed at breakneck speed into coastal areas in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and the Maldives on Sunday morning."
What a wonderful start to the day eh? Imagine waking up to find your roof as a blanket.
Homes were destroyed , some families were torn apart, other families were killed. Singaporean students grumble about school right after the holidays while elsewhere, someone else cries because he's no longer able to go to school. Singaporeans are ranting about their sucky worklife when next door, our neighbours only wish to return to work as soon as possible.
Guess it is true that human beings only cherish what they have when they've lost it.
The irony of it all.
Life can be so blindly cruel can't it?
While people were dying elsewhere and tears were shed for loved ones lost, we hear stories of pampered sisies crying just because they got into HwaChong JC instead of Raffles JC. While grand monuments were swept away, we riddiculed our 'Durian' . While children were straving we see rich flaunting tai tais tah paoing food home from a monestry.
Human beings are pretty sickening aren't they?
As the year closes in, think twice before complaining about how sucky/boring/uneventful/disturbing/whatever your life is cos' elsewhere, people are losing their lives.
Now all I want is for my grand auntie/foster mother , Hong XinYing to come back safely, in one piece and continue yakking and lame-ing with us again. She's still in Thailand and she's supposed to come home today.
I can only wish for her to strangle and whack me now. Then again, she definately will. God promised that. This I know.
"Believeing is seeing."
